The Official Lumix GX7 Leather Case

In album

Really dig this official leather ever-ready case for the Lumix GX7. It works with the eyecup extender, 14/2.5, 20/1.7 the 14-42 X pancake zoom and any other small lens like the zoom that comes with the GM1.

What I really dig is how comfortable it is to hold. The leather on the grip side is just thick enough to cover the strap lug and extends enough on the bottom to make this small camera fit perfectly in my hand.

The inside is lined with black felt as well. The screw lug on the bottom of the case can be attached to a tripod quick release but I don't recommend it. I think if one were to over tighten a tripod quick release plate it could be hard to remove due to the small size of the screw lug. – see photo

This is a case to be carried, shown off and when closed tossed into your favorite bag. :-)

The official Panasonic leather case for the GX7 can be preordered at BH Photo

No battery door access = my reason why I don't buy fitted cases. I'll wait for Gariz to make one.

+Mitch Hamilton I hear ya. First thing I did was check to see what Gariz has…but nothing.

That said I shoot 16GB cards and only change batteries maybe once a day. If I'm out and about, which is where I'll use this case I transfer JPEG's and video over WiFi leaving the RAW's on the card.

Nice!  I really like the black leather on the GX7, as opposed to the common brown.  One question, the eyecup extender, is there a need for the tether string?  Does it not fit tight enough, that you could lose it?

+Kevin Worley The string is there if you want to take off the eyecup quickly. Sometimes when wearing glasses I might want to get my eye closer and I take off the eye cup quickly.

Where the top case attaches to the sides of the bottom case, it’s unclear what the attachment mechanism is (snaps?, Velcro?). Looks like it would be in the perfect spot to be annoying in use, particularly if Velcro.

It looks big in photos, really big. I think it’s due to the top case being somewhat loosely fitted. Can you post a picture of just the bottom case attached so we can get an idea of just how much it increases the girth of the handgrip?

Also, does the top case fit with the 14-42 kit lens, or just the pancake version?

Sorry if this posted twice – Noscript interfered with my first attempt.

The top and bottom connect with metal snaps like most vintage cases work. You are right, the case does add some bulk to the overall body but I found it works well for the bottom half of the case since it smooths out the part of the GX7 body that has the strap lug making everything more comfortable to hold overall.

There’s a photo of the GX7 with only the bottom half of the case in the gallery with this post. You are correct though, the top portion of the case only works with the pancake lenses including the X Zoom.

  1. Three Leather Cases for GM1, GX7 - Small Camera BIG Picture - January 23, 2014

[…] I really love my GX7 and GM1 both are amazing in their own way and both look awesome too. Recently I got the official leather case for the GX7 from Panasonic which I really dig. Currently it’s only available from BH photo but they are in stock as of this writing and include free shipping anywhere in the USA. See more pics in this post […]
