iPhone Control of the E-M5 – Real or Fake?

Is this real or real fake?

Many of you are aware of the iPhone app called TriggerTrap which triggers your camera a dozen different ways.

Expect a detailed review of TriggerTrap with the E-M5 and the Pen Mini in July.

This photo however is NOT TriggerTrap. The iPhone in the photo is showing the Super Control Panel of the E-M5.

If this is not TriggerTrap then what is it?

The future of photography is mirrorless and connectivity of camera to the web. Could this be a fake or some type of new app?

      Are you sure? Doesn’t Square do it with credit cards and what about TriggerTrap? This photo remains a mystery but I’d love to know for sure.

        Giulio, this is precisely the way TriggerTrap communicates with the camera. It’s explained in their website.

        TriggerTrap uses a dongle and I think their communication is iPhone/iPod to Camera only, not the other way around as this picture implies.

    TriggerTrap has a major flaw by the way, be sure to mention this when you review! European, non-UK iOS devices do NOT work with TriggerTrap as their audio output is limited in scale due to European legislation. This stops TriggerTrap from working with these devices. This has been documented deep within the TriggerTrap pages.

        If TriggerTrap is really good, I might actually consider getting a cheap iPod Touch in the States, not only for this purpose, but to a great degree. Maybe you can create a post about remote trigger options for the E-M5. For my E-520 and my E-5 I have been using the IR-1 infrared remote control from Olympus, but this doesn’t work with the E-M5. That’s a bit disappointing. So, a list of options would be a great post.

    Hey Guilio, first off congratulations on your site, I’ve been checking your content for some weeks now and it’s top quality. Second, this is not directly related to the post but what strap are you using on your Olympus? I’m quite a fan of straps that have clips and I have a Crumpler Convenience Disgrace for one of my cameras, but I wanted something smaller to go with my mirrorless.

      Hi Vitor. The strap I’m using on the OM-D is from a crummy camera bag I found (at a thrift store I think) It works great but the clips are rubbing on the OM-D body and they might rub off the paint in the future so I’m looking into other solutions.

      I do talk about a Gariz strap in one of my Pimp Yo Pen videos which is good but there is no quick release.

      One strap I’ve owned for years but have not used on the OM-D yet is made by Domke which you can get anywhere.
