Have your Compressed Video File (AVCHD) and Edit It as a MOV File

As I adjust to my awesome “small” camera system, I’m shooting more and more video. Storage becomes an issue as video files are large. So I use the AVCHD format that my Lumix GH3 offers because it has high quality while being very compressed and creating a relatively small file. The problem is that not all editing programs will accept the native AVCHD format. There are some, like Lightroom and iMovie that will, however to use the clips in anything else they would have to be exported as a different file type. This degrades the original video so is undesirable.

What to do? Get ClipWrap! It wraps your AVCHD file in code that editing software sees as a MOV file and does so with no loss of quality. Watch here to see how easy it is!

    why dont you just set your gh3 to shoot Quicktime MOV H.264. files and most opinons say this is best gh3 codec?although i do like avchd for viewing straight on my panasonic plasma and bluray ,and the files are smaller compared to the mov files.

    Great info Carol. As other commenters are saying, you could use the h264 on your GH3 easily, but that doesn’t apply to every camera. The G5 h264 doesn’t have that many settings or as high bitrate as the AVCHD. Also the GF3 (maybe this applies to other cameras in the line as well?) Doesn’t even offer h264, only AVCHD and Motion JPEG (Which sucks!)

    Hi Carol, just wondering why you would convert a file when you can shoot a much better format mov file to begin with. just shoot the smaller mov option in the GH3

    I am shooting some video with mostly images. When I edit in LR and export to desktop (on Mac) open Pro Show producer v4.5(pc) make a show the sound is of by couple of sec. I tried a program to decode the video this made the audio off 4 or 5 sec. and quality of video poor. Need help.Pro show said upgrade to v5. Bob
