It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon when the gorgeous model Amanda Coulter showed up for her Brooklyn rooftop photo shoot. Continuing my exploration into the realm of hybrid artistry I wanted to do a short but sweet video of her along with the photos we were planning on shooting.
That’s it!!! No reflector, no lights, no crew, no big set up, just quick easy shooting!
With the ease of the live view LCD on the Lumix GH3 and since its mirrorless, what you see is what you get. Quickly being able to adjust the white balance with the touch of one button I was able to get the look and feel that I wanted for the video. Then, like any photo or video, I set my aperture and shutter speed to get the exposure that I wanted. With this video I really wanted a nice warm washed out look, something angelic almost.
Lastly, all that’s left is to “press the little red button”. After a couple quick short takes, we were done in only about 15 minutes!
Since I am quite new to video work, I will be honest, I know very little about post processing video. That is one of the things that I love the most about working with mirrorless cameras like the Lumix GH3. You are able to do SO MUCH in camera, that post production is very minimal! All I did was upload the video clips to my computer, import them into Adobe Premiere Pro CS5, and then cut and arranged the clips how I wanted them. Lastly I added some music to it, and that’s it, DONE!
It is an ongoing learning process being a hybrid artist, but I am loving every step of the way. It has opened so many doors and continues to excite me. How have you been experimenting with video? Leave me any questions or comments below.
Be sure to check out last weeks studio shoot with Amanda
